Railroad Madness

Developed by: Floor 84 Studio LC -- Price: $0.99 -- Download from iTunes

Just when you thought a rail yard simulation game couldn’t be fun without virtual hobos along comes Railroad Madness to prove you wrong. It’s up to you to guide the trains through a maze of switches to the proper receiving area: the station for passenger trains and the warehouse for cargo trains. Did I mention the switches only turn clockwise so you’d better have some fast fingers.

Home & Menu Screens

So there you are a stick figure skydiver free falling down a sheet of graph paper towards an ocean of blue ink infested with hungry cartoon sharks. Your only hope for landing safely is to deploy your doodle parachute and land on a sketched freighter that just happens to be passing by. Before you touch down though you need to be on the lookout for evil doodles like rain clouds that produce lightning, helicopters, and alien spacecraft.

Flight Control

Developed by: FireMint -- Price: $0.99 -- Download from iTunes

Flight Control manages to make an entertaining game out of arguably one of the most stressful jobs in the world, Air Traffic Controller. The controls are pretty simple as a plane or helicopter enters your view you use your finger on the touch screen to draw the flight path you want it to take. The goal is to get each plane or helicopter to it’s correct landing area while avoiding a mid air collision. Continue reading →

Prolix

Developed by: Ti Studios LLC -- Price: $0.99 -- Download from iTunes

If Scrabble and Tetris had a love child it would be Prolix. It’s a block stacking game like Tetris, but instead of matching colors to clear rows you form words. If you’re like me and don’t spell very well to begin with it makes playing Prolix even more challenging.

Minigore

Developed by: Chillingo Ltd -- Price: $0.99 -- Download from iTunes

Splash Screen

This is an odd post for me because, frankly, I suck at this game. It’s dual “control sticks” prove that I have two left thumbs. That being said being bad at a game has never been more enjoyable. The visuals in this game are stunning! Check out the game play video below:

Hopefully your thumbs are more coordinated than mine.

Menu Screen

It just so happens that when the zombie apocalypse sweeps the earth you’re visiting your dear old granny. As roving hoards of undead begin traipsing across granny’s lawn you realize that it’s up to you to keep granny safe. Since you don’t seem to possess any useful weapons you do the only thing you can do which is lure them in to that kill zone of the artillery shells that are raining down on granny’s lawn. ( WTF? ) Not only do you need to keep the zombies from getting granny’s brains, you also need to keep away from your cranium while avoiding the incoming artillery rounds. Continue reading →

Doodle Jump

Developed by: Lima Sky, LLC -- Price: $0.99 -- Download from iTunes

Doodle Jump the name just about sums up this game. The graphics are amazing in their simplistic “doodle” style and it almost feels like you’re playing the game on a piece of graph paper. The goal of the game is to keep moving up by jumping from platform to platform with, at times, the aid of springs and jet pack, but beware of crumbling platforms, doodle creatures, and pesky holes in the paper. The game play is pretty simple, but at the same time still challenging which is perfect for killing a little time. Continue reading →

I Dig It

Developed by: InMotion Software, LLC. -- Price: $0.99 -- Download from iTunes

Notice: I Dig It is, at the time of this post, on sale for $0.99 for a “limited time”.

How good is this game? Well I’ve put off writing this post until the battery finally died on my iPod Touch. It’s that good.

The mortgage on the farm is due and you need to come up with some cash quick. Luckily you’ve converted your tractor in to a “digging machine” which you can use to unearth the buried treasure that lies beneath the surface. While you’re down there you’ll need to keep one eye on the gauges to make sure you don’t overheat, run out of fuel, or that your hull doesn’t become too damaged. Once back on the surface you can sell your treasures at the farmhouse, refuel your machine at the gas pumps, and/or head to the garage for repairs/upgrades. Continue reading →

Kill All Bugs!

Developed by: Sonic Boom Games -- Price: $0.99 -- Download from iTunes

I admit I am a sucker for a good “tower defense” game to me they are an excellent balance part puzzle and part strategy. Normally in a “tower defense” style game there is a defined path leading to a single objective that you must defend. Kill All Bugs! tosses aside that convention by throwing away the defined path and adding multiple objectives, in the form of cities, that you must defend. Continue reading →
